About

FlexCDM was founded by Ellen Stewart to meet the needs of a changing industry.

With an undergraduate degree in Political Science but a lackluster affinity for life in Washington DC, Ellen needed to find her adult work. A job setting up the scheduling database at her college roommate's father's law office opened the door to a new world. Building a relational database that was both user-friendly and functional was fun! Subsequently, there were work experiences as database programmer, SAS programmer, and data manager, at CROs and Pharmaceutical companies, big and small. Several decades later, Ellen has amassed experience in all elements of clinical data management, both as a hands-on doer and a team leader.

In the fall of 2025, Ellen was awarded membership into #Club9000, and suddenly there was the exciting prospect of a white space ahead. She used her free time to learn more about an area of personal interest, upskilling on the DDF initiative, earning USDM CEU's and participating in a FHIR connectation for the SOA. Upon completion of this work, she hopes to do some volunteering for CDISC or TransCelerate.

In 2026, it is back to work, although this time with a narrow focus to help small companies with specific data management needs. Having worked at a number of small companies, she is familiar with the ebbs and flows of the demands on data managers and is excited to lend her experience to specific scopes of work to augment DM capabilities.
